What is Swag?

SWAG (swag) --noun An acronym for "Stuff We All Get"; Useful items given to a specific group of people designed to reinforce a theme, a brand or an experience; Also known as branded logo merchandise, promotional products and advertising specialties. Reference Maine Today

Did you know that sweepstakes prizes can be considered swag? Companies run a sweepstakes or promotion in hopes of getting new website or blog readers, and eventually new customers. Attract Customers with Giveaways

Have you ever heard of the famous swag bags given out to movie stars and singers at the Emmys, Oscars, and Grammy awards shows? Some of those swag bags can run into the thousands of dollars. Gifts of high value like computers, iPods, diamond watches, expensive perfume, handbags, and even Botox treatments are given to these stars. Why? In hopes they will use their product or service, promote it on the red carpet, be seen with it in public when the paparazzi snaps their photo, and share it with their rich and influential friends.

We might not be rich. We might not be famous. But, let’s face it, everybody loves free stuff and when properly planned SWAG can be a fun way to influence us as a customer and a great way for businesses to market themselves.
